Can we fix the brain? A story on replacing lost neurons

Dr. Yvette Zarb (Doctor)
Ever wonder how we can fight dementia? Or how we can restore the brain after a bad head injury? We ask these questions too! The brain is a complex organ with various functions, so it comes to no surprise that repairing this organ after injury or disease is an intricate process. The cellular component processing the information in our brains is the Neuron and damage to these cells disrupts brain function. In this talk we will explore the efforts undertaken and challenges encountered in the field of neuronal replacement therapy, aiming to reestablish a healthy brain function.

The Intestinal Barrier: Inside your insides

Dr. Doriane Aguanno (Doctor)
The intestine is the core center of our body and its first role is to digest food into nutrients in order to provide energy to all organs. But the gut has many more functions than simply feeding us. The role of the intestine places it at the tricky interface between the outer environment and our inner body. With great gifts come great responsibilities: the gut’s open window on the outside world implies that it guarantees us protection and acts as the first line of defense. In this talk, we will dive into our intestinal barrier function and learn how to trust our gut.
